Governor Greg Abbott has instructed hospitals in Texas to start asking patients about their immigration status.
Let’s be very clear: Everyone, regardless of immigration status, is legally entitled to medical care.
But invasive questions in emergency rooms will make immigrants less likely to seek out care out of fear of detention or deportation.
This harmful policy just adds to the long list of Greg Abbott’s attacks on our community: from SB4 to bussing migrants to installing razor wire barriers at the border, Abbott is a dangerous threat to migrants in Texas and around the country.
