Howdy Texan –

I wanted to update you on my work in the United States House for Texas' 31st district.

ON THE DOCKET:

  • Modernizing Our Military
  • National Oilwell Varco
  • What do you think?
  • Congressional Veteran Commendation
  • Service Academy Nominations and Forum

THE BRIEF:

  • Israel has said it carried out a wave of pre-emptive strikes across southern Lebanon to thwart a large-scale rocket and drone attack by Hezbollah.
  • In his stated effort to uphold election integrity in Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott announced that more than one million people have been removed from the state’s voter rolls.
  • An uptick in sausage demand can offer the latest sign of consumers tightening their belts as they continue grappling with high prices.

MODERNIZING OUR MILITARY

I joined the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce, defense companies, and military representatives for a fireside chat about the importance of modernizing our military in the fight against China, Russia, and Iran. For the last couple of decades, our enemies have been watching how America fights wars. They have been developing technology to exploit our weaknesses and counter our strengths. Modernizing our military not only means we are ready for any fight but it also keeps America's servicemembers safer on the battlefield.

NATIONAL OILWELL VARCO

The oil and gas industry still fuels the world, so I was glad to visit National Oilwell Varco in Cedar Park to tour their manufacturing facility, meet several constituents, and hear about their longtime ties to Central Texas. NOV is a leader in creating parts necessary to drill. One of my first jobs was reading the gauges at wells across east Texas, so it was nice to see how the process and technology has grown to meet the demand and efficiency needed to power the world.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Are you better off than you were four years ago?

SERVICE ACADEMY FORUM

The deadline to apply for a U.S. Service Academy nomination is October 3, 2024, at 5:00 pm. I encourage all young men and women interested in attending the United States Military Academy, Naval Academy, Coast Guard Academy, Merchant Marine Academy or Air Force Academy to start their application early. If you want more information about the application process, I encourage you to attend the Central Texas Service Academy Forum on September 14, 2024, at Cedar Ridge High School from 8:30 am- 12:00 pm. No reservation is necessary, and it is a free event to learn about the application process and talk with each service academy.

As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district.

Representing you and Texas in the United States House is an honor and privilege.

Sincerely,

John R. Carter
