Elissa is an incredible candidate with a compelling story. You might know that she served three tours in Iraq alongside our military before working in national security under two presidents. But I want to share with you some of our recent conversations in which I learned why being a public servant is personal for Elissa.
After comforting families and survivors of not just one but two school shootings in Michigan (Oxford and Michigan State University), Elissa became even more fierce in her determination to stop the #1 killer of children in the United States: gun violence.
“People protested against seat belts in the 80s,” she told me, “but common sense prevailed, and millions of lives have been saved. We need to get this done!”
We CAN get this done if we elect people like Elissa who aren’t beholden to the gun lobby. People with common sense. People who care.

I know you’re getting a lot of emails. I am too. But even a dollar from each of us adds up to our grassroots power up and down the ballot.
A Democratic Senate majority is vital to defeat the candidates who flat-out lie to us (Unity? Really?). Billionaire donors can’t wait for Republicans to cut their taxes while yours go up—and Elissa’s likely opponent in November is on board with that.
For Elissa, serving the public is personal. She knows about the high cost of medical care. Her mom was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and passed away in 2011. And she knows what it’s like to agonize over a family budget in the wake of high medical expenses.
You can count on Elissa to vote for dignity, our democracy, rights, freedoms, safety, healthcare, Medicare, and Social Security. You can count on her to lift small business owners, students, farmers, working families, seniors, and our most vulnerable neighbors.
