DNC sues Georgia election board for passing rules delaying certification
* The DNC and Georgia Democratic Party sued ([link removed]) the Georgia State Election Board over new rules that could delay election certification this fall. Democrats ask the court to rule that certification is mandatory and officials cannot delay or refuse to certify.
Texas has removed over 1 million voters from its rolls since 2021
* Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced ([link removed]) this morning that the state has removed over one million people from its voter rolls since Republican legislators passed sweeping voter suppression law Senate Bill 1 three years ago.
* SB 1, passed in the wake of the 2020 election, was met with fierce opposition ([link removed]) from pro-voting groups and Democratic Texas legislators. A lawsuit ([link removed]) was filed against Abbott over the legislation in September of 2021, and litigation is ongoing.
Republicans target over 225,000 voter registrations in North Carolina
* The Republican National Committee (RNC) and the North Carolina Republican Party filed ([link removed]) a lawsuit Friday claiming that North Carolina has allowed over 225,000 people to register to vote without collecting required ID information and permitted noncitizens to register.
* This was one of two lawsuits the RNC and the North Carolina GOP filed last week in the state. In the other lawsuit, Republicans alleged ([link removed]) the state board hasn’t followed a new law’s requirement to remove noncitizens recorded by county clerks from the state’s voter rolls.
Montana secretary of state asks SCOTUS to uphold anti-voting laws
* Using the discredited independent state legislature theory, Montana's Republican secretary of state asked ([link removed]) the U.S. Supreme Court to reinstate parts of voter suppression laws the Montana Supreme Court struck down for violating the state constitution.
The latest on voting and election cases in Arizona
* Arizona Republicans filed ([link removed]) a lawsuit directly in the state Supreme Court challenging two executive orders issued by Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) that expand voting and voter registration access throughout the state.
* An Arizona judge set ([link removed]) the trial date for January 5, 2026 for over a dozen people charged with felonies for their involvement with Arizona’s 2020 fake electors scheme. Among the defendants are John Eastman, Rudy Guilliani, Mark Meadows, and Christina Bobb.
Two Wisconsin cities will not offer drop boxes for voters
* Two cities in Waukesha County, Wisconsin opted out ([link removed]) of using drop boxes for absentee ballots this fall even after the state Supreme Court reversed a ban on the containers earlier this summer. The cities had previously used drop boxes in 2020.
Pennsylvania judge delivers victory for voters
* Washington County, Pennsylvania must inform voters of errors on their mail-in ballots and let them cast provisional votes at the polls in the upcoming election, a judge ruled ([link removed]) . Previously, a county board policy had defective mail-in ballots tossed without notifying voters.
* The board’s policy disenfranchised ([link removed]) 259 otherwise eligible voters who cast mail-in ballots during the county’s April 2024 primary elections.
Election denier drops out of Michigan Supreme Court race
* Election denier Matthew DePerno ended ([link removed]) his bid for a seat on the Michigan Supreme Court. DePerno, an attorney and long-time Donald Trump supporter, was charged last year for his role in a scheme to gain illegal access to voting machines in the state in 2020.
Right-wing groups recruit sheriffs to help suppress votes
