We’ve said this before and we’ll say it again: the Republicans are hell-bent on subverting democracy by suppressing the vote and on defunding key federal programs that serve all Americans. This is clearly manifested in their opposition to vote-by-mail, even during a pandemic, to the point where they forced Wisconsin voters to risk their lives to vote in person. And furthermore, Republicans are allowing Trump to block funding to the Postal Service.
With the upcoming CARES-2 stimulus bill, Democrats have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure funding for both the Postal Service and vote-by-mail. Activists are contacting their Members of Congress this week to demand that they include this funding in the next bill, and we are joining them.
Contact your Members of Congress ([link removed][UNIQID]) to demand that they fund the Post Office and vote-by-mail.
Activists are also sending letters to their Senators this week through the US Postal Service. Send a letter to Senator Feinstein (United States Senate, 331 Hart Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20510) and Senator Harris (United States Senate, 112 Hart Senate Office Building,
Washington, D.C. 20510) asking them to fund the USPS. Use a message like this:
My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my zip code is _______. I am a member of Indivisible SF.
I urge the [Senator] to vote to fully fund the United States Postal Service. The Postal Service delivers life-saving medications and food, enables voting by mail in primary states, supports other services necessary for our nation to operate during the COVID-19 crisis, and is obligated to serve all Americans, regardless of where they live, rural and urban alike.
I also demand that [Senator] protect my right to vote in future elections by including $4 billion in the next relief bill to allow all Americans to vote by mail.
I look forward to watching how [Senator] votes during the next stimulus bill.
We are also continuing to fight for the other provisions of an equitable stimulus bill that helps regular Americans, instead of just bailing out corporations. The previous CARES bill and the interim legislation passed last week did little but shift wealth from the poor to the rich. If this is all the stimulus legislation we get, it will have a profoundly negative effect, which we discuss in our blog post on the bills ([link removed][UNIQID]) . We have to push our Members of Congress to pass legislation for everyone, not just for the rich.
We will be sending an open letter to our Members of Congress with our demands for the next bill.
Please sign on to our open letter using this Google Form ([link removed][UNIQID]) . You can see the draft here ([link removed][UNIQID]) . And contact your Senators to tell them to get to work immediately on the new CARES-2 act.
* Contact your Senators ([link removed][UNIQID]) (Harris and Feinstein) to tell them that you’re disappointed in the results of the interim bill and ask them to begin drafting a new package that does more to help Americans.

Feeling down or lonely? We’re holding a virtual coffee talk TODAY at 3:30 PM to bring some joy and togetherness to our community. Our text bank training was a success! Eight ISF members gathered on Zoom last week to join the Indivisitexting team and learn to text bank in support of progressive candidates! We went over how text banking works, why it’s become a critical part of voter outreach, and why we’ve already started texting now for elections in November. Then we learned how to use the tools Indivisitexting uses to communicate both within the team and with voters. Now we’re ready to jump into any texting program that appears on the Indivisible Texting Schedule ([link removed][UNIQID]) ! Stay tuned for more opportunities to start Indivisitexting – more trainings are coming soon.
