In Mexico, organizers and campaigners have long fought against the production and sale of genetically modified corn in the country. Despite victories in recent years, as Ann Deslandes reports [ [link removed] ], they say that struggle isn’t yet over as a new government moves on previous commitments to phase out GMO corn.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador decreed in 2020 that the use of the pesticide glyphosate would be completely phased out in Mexico by 2024, with a parallel plan to ban the import of genetically modified corn. Yet, organizers say the fight against genetically modified corn is ongoing.

If elected, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz likely aren’t planning to keep the same Biden national security personnel, and they don’t need to keep the Biden message. If they want to be successful, they should pursue a vision of US foreign policy consistent with a stronger message of freedom, progress and neighborliness — a global Good Neighbor policy.
