### **Martina Navratilova Unloads on Trans Athlete Valentina Petrillo**
In a shocking display of common sense, tennis legend Martina Navratilova has called out Italian sprinter Valentina Petrillo as a "pathetic cheater" for competing in the women's category at the upcoming Paralympics. Petrillo, 50, is set to become the first transgender woman to compete in the Paralympics, despite being born a male.
Navratilova, an outspoken champion of protecting women's rights in sports, took to social media to express her outrage over Petrillo's participation in the women's events. "Petrillo is a pathetic cheater," she wrote on X. In another post, Navratilova lamented the fact that yet another male athlete was "stealing women's trophies" in the Paralympics. "Yet another male stealing women’s trophies. In [the] Paralympics, no less. Sickening."
Petrillo, who won 11 national titles in the men's T12 category between 2015 and 2018 before transitioning, claims that she has a right to compete as a woman despite her biological advantages. "I began transitioning in 2019 and in 2020 I realized my dream, which was to race in the female category, to do the sport that I had always loved doing," Petrillo told The Associated Press. "I got to 50 before it came true … we all have the right to a second choice of life, a second chance."
However, Petrillo's own words reveal some doubts about her place in women's sports. When asked if she thought she would be stronger than biological women due to her male physiology, Petrillo hesitated. "I have asked myself ‘But Valentina, if you were a biological woman and you saw a Valentina racing with you, what would you think?’ And I responded to myself that I would also have some doubts," she said.
