Jack, Daily Kos is a small, independent news outlet and activism hub. We don't have a billionaire backer or big corporate sponsors. We like it that way because it keeps us free from their personal agendas and interests.

Daily Kos' biggest source of income is grassroots donations—i.e., gifts of just a few bucks at a time. Our average donation is just $9.44, which might not sound like much, but adds up to more than 60 percent of our income!

Because we're a reader-supported news outlet and activism hub, we can only launch big campaigns with your support—and we got a big one this year. We're working to recruit 100,000 volunteers to help Get Out The Vote for Kamala Harris and Democrats up and down the ballot. This is a huge, huge project for us.

Now, here's the rub: Ad revenue is in decline—not just for us, but across the whole news business. What's more, grassroots donations have slipped this year. That's been a double whammy that's put real pressure on us as we try to launch a huge and incredibly important GOTV campaign.

We're rolling up our sleeves and Getting Out The Vote for Kamala Harris and Democrats up and down the ballot. I'm asking you to please donate $9.44 to help offset the cost of Daily Kos' GOTV campaign and help us recruit 100,000 volunteers this fall.
