Dear Reader,
As this school year begins, I wanted to reach out to underscore how valuable independent, well-researched journalism can be to understanding our education system.
Year after year, you can find Hechinger Report journalists in child care centers, classrooms and college campuses. You may hear our reporters being interviewed on NPR and local radio stations, helping to unpack and translate newly released research. Our mission: connect ideas and issues raised by parents, policy makers, educators and students – and then report back to you.
Education is complicated, urgent, political and divisive, and our nonprofit newsroom has become a backstop for large and small outlets that, due to budget constraints, lack their own high-quality education expertise. I’m proud that our stories about inequality and innovation continue to influence policy, help students and parents make informed choices about colleges, and spark discussion on what’s happening in the classroom.
The thing is, though, we still need your help. Our journalism is reader-supported and only possible because of people like you.
If you can, please consider supporting us with a $50 gift. Or better yet, make a commitment with a monthly gift, and help us start this school year on a strong footing.
