John,
Millionaires and billionaires exploited shortages during the pandemic to raise prices, especially for seniors. If capitalism worked the way we were taught in school, competition in the free market should have worked to prevent price gouging. But decades of corporate consolidation prevented that competition from taking place―leading to higher costs across the economy.
The Biden-Harris antitrust team at the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division have aggressively enforced laws and investigated mergers to make our economy work again. But they’ve run up against resistance from those same millionaires and billionaires.
Now, megadonors are pressuring Kamala Harris to fire the heads of the Biden-Harris antitrust team. We need to show we have their backs.
Sign the petition to show public support for the Biden-Harris antitrust agenda! Don’t let billionaires buy our politicians!
Between the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice, there are legal actions against Ticketmaster, Apple, and Amazon, as well as a slew of actions banning non-compete agreements and fighting against junk fees. FTC Chair Lina Khan is putting attempts at corporate consolidation under the microscope and making sure it won’t harm consumers. And Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter, who is in charge of the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, is standing up against illegal monopolies that already exist, like UnitedHealth and Ticketmaster.
If Kamala Harris wins (and we hope she does), she’ll have to manage a transition and decide where to continue the Biden administration’s legacy, and where to break with it.
Your signature here will send a powerful message to stay the course when it comes to fighting corporate power!
Thank you,
Michael Phelan
