Contender is the second level of the Young Guns program, and Scott Taylor is the only candidate in Virginia's 2nd Congressional district to have earned this level of recognition from the NRCC.
According to House Republican Leader and head of the Young Guns Program, Congressman Kevin McCarthy:
“The Democrats have discredited the House of Representatives with their impeachment, and we need to elect a Republican majority this year to get Congress back on the right course. Scott Taylor was one of the most effective members of Congress and Virginia's 2nd District should return him to Washington this year. Elaine Luria and her fellow Democrats have failed their constituents and Scott Taylor will defeat her this year because of it."
Led by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and run by the NRCC, the Young Guns program identifies candidates across the country who embody the principles of the House Republican Conference and demonstrate operating a successful campaign. Taylor is the exclusive recipient of the Contender recognition in the VA02 race.
The Young Guns program requires that candidates demonstrate consistent performance in operating competitive, well-funded and communicative campaigns within their districts. Scott Taylor's ability to consistently meet these competitive metrics highlight that Taylor is the candidate to take back Virginia's Second District.
