Folks,

I’m an upstate New Yorker through and through. I grew up in Schenectady, went to Colgate for college, represented New York’s 19th Congressional District, and am now serving as Lieutenant Governor while raising my family in Rhinebeck.

It is true that I had a few detours—to England, where I went to Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, to Harvard Law School, where I met my wife, Lacey (a native of upstate too), and to Los Angeles, where I pursued a music career as a Hip Hop artist. But in the end, I came back home because home is always where the heart is.

Unfortunately, being an upstate kid through and through didn’t stop my opponents back in my 2018 race for Congress from trying to paint me as an outsider. They said I was a threat to the community, all because I happened to be a Hip Hop artist at one point in my life. They assumed that because the district was very rural and nearly 90% white, this type of race-baiting would work.

In the end, love won over hate.

That race was tough, and those attack ads were hurtful, but the experience taught me to never give up. It showed me that, more often than not, people will choose a genuine heart over a disingenuous divider.

I want to take those lessons learned and apply them to toss-up races across the country. Upstate New York isn’t an outlier. There are plenty more swing districts that can be won with the right candidate and the necessary resources.

I’m launching VOICE PAC to support Democrats running in tight races so we can rack up more wins and take back control of Congress. I’m hoping to create a network of grassroots supporters—people like you—who can help us achieve our goals.
