The Modern Slavery Act 2015 was a landmark in acknowledging the scale of the problem nationally and globally. Whilst much of the attention has been on the exploitation of workers, often foreign nationals, in agriculture and in sex work, there is also increasing evidence of a range of exploitative behaviour often on a smaller scale. The Exploitation and Slavery Team is part of the Council Community Protection Directorate. It works closely with a range of agencies including Adult Social Care and the Police to protect adult victims of slavery and exploitation (children are supported by the Council?s Children?s Integrated Service). Central to this is the multi-agency Slavery and Exploitation Risk Assessment Conference that oversees case management and meets monthly. The Team is funded in 2020/21 to work both in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County.
