On Thursday night, history was made when Kamala Harris took the stage and accepted the Democratic nomination for President, reaffirming what I have always known about her: Kamala is, and always has been, for the people.

From her days as a prosecutor to standing tall as Vice President, Kamala Harris has been laser-focused on taking care of our families, our communities, and our future. When I wrote my op-ed in Essence back in 2019, I knew Kamala was the perfect antidote to the false narratives that divided us. Her story, as a daughter of immigrants and as the second class to integrate Berkeley schools, is the American story. It is a story of resilience, grit, and dedication.

Her speech last night was a rallying cry for all of us who believe in a better future — one where everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from, can thrive.
