It has come out that Joyce’s opponent in New Hampshire’s race for Governor was a Purdue Pharma lobbyist who called OxyContin a “miracle drug.”
New Hampshire has been hit extremely hard by the opioid epidemic, and we’ve been grappling with this crisis for decades. You don’t have to go far to find a story about a Granite Stater who has been impacted. That’s what makes this especially disheartening.
Granite Staters deserve a Governor who fights for them. But Joyce’s opponent didn’t just lobby on behalf of Purdue Pharma. Since at least 2011, she worked and lobbied for a Pain Clinic that was involved in a major prescription opioid kickback scheme that recovery advocates have called a “pill mill.”
And now? Even though recovery advocates are calling on her to drop out, she has been funding her political career with tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from the opioid industry.
