Friend, we all see it, we all feel it. There are more and more extreme-weather events—from floods to wildfires to scorching heat—every year now. The intensity and frequency of these unnatural disasters is a direct result of polluting fossil-fuel companies and corporate greed, and it can feel overwhelming at times. But the good news is that there's actually a lot we can do to be prepared. The trick is to take things step by step.

Today we'll go over how to make a Go Bag—a pre-stocked bag equipped for an emergency. While contents should reflect your specific region and medical needs, we can start with the following eight basic items.
1) Sturdy Bag
Backpack, duffel, or rolling suitcase to pack all your essentials. Ideally, there should be room for a small tent.
2) Food and Water
Enough for 3-5 days. Set up calendar alerts to check expiration dates and replenish your supply periodically.
3) Waterproof Map
Bring a map of your area in case you get lost or need to find a safe location in the event that power is lost.
4) Important Documents/Money
Birth certificates, Social Security cards, prescriptions, bank account info, and insurance docs. And some emergency cash in small bills.
5) Flashlight
To help you navigate at night and in low-light situations.
6) Portable Charger
For recharging your phone and other devices. Go solar, if possible.
7) Change of Clothes/Warm Clothes
Socks, underwear, and a windbreaker or jacket for cooler nights.
8)First-Aid Kit/Important Medicine
A first-aid kit is critical. And don’t forget your essential medications and prescriptions.
