Texas has been called the "dove-huntingest" state in the union, and the upcoming season will testify to that. According to our surveys, mourning dove numbers are up a healthy 21%, and white-winged doves are at the highest numbers ever recorded in Texas: 12.8 million!
Dove season opens on 9/1 in the North and Central Zones, and the South Zone's Special White-Winged Dove Days also start 9/1. For all regulation information, refer to the updated Oudoor Annual online or the app.
Anyone born after Sept. 1, 1971 must complete Hunter Education to hunt in Texas. Once completed, you can find your Hunter Ed certificate online. Don't forget to buy your license, and look over the Dove Season Checklist to be sure you're ready for this extraordinary season.
The My Texas Hunt Harvest (MTHH) app has a new name: Texas Hunt & Fish (THF). It's still free, and offers the great features of electronic onsite registration and license display, as well as the ability to report wild turkey, white-tailed deer and alligator gar harvest.
Fully digital license holders must use the Texas Hunt & Fish app to execute digital tags for deer, turkey, oversized red drum and spotted seatrout.
If you already have the MTHH app, it should have automatically converted to THF on 8/15. Find out more about the many features of this helpful app in our press release Texas Harvest Mobile App Gets a New Name – Texas Hunt & Fish.

Plan your hunts on any of the 1 million+ acres of walk-in hunting lands. This includes land we lease from federal and state agencies and private landowners. All you need for access is a $48 Annual Public Hunting Permit.
You can plan your hunts easily by doing a search by area or type of game, or search using the interactive map.
Paperless check-in is an option at many public hunting sites. Look for "eOSR" at the information station, then use the Texas Hunt & Fish app to complete on-site registration. If you download the app in advance, you won't need a cell signal to check in.

Nobody likes to miss a shot, especially when your buddies are around. While there are no shortcuts to shotgun success, we've got 3 different ways you can build your skills:
- Know the 3 top tips that enable you to improve your shotgun skills.
- Hunter Education Instructor Heidi Rao demonstrates easy exercises in the short video Tips for Shotgunning.
- Clay target shooting helps you hone your skills because clays are airborne targets – like birds on the wing. Find out more about this in the Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine story Shooting Clays.
