Dear John,
This week, I celebrated National Senior Citizens Day with some of Southern California's incredible seniors. This group of individuals have long gifted our community with experience, service, and kindness beyond measure. I am thrilled to have honored a few of them at this year's Seniors of Distinction Awards hosted by my office.
I also had the chance to spend time with local officials this week to celebrate vital projects I worked to secure federal funding for. I'm thrilled to have secured funding to revitalize the Fullerton Police Department and enhance public safety operations.
Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my Facebook, Instagram, and X to get these updates in real-time.

Honoring our Seniors of Distinction
With National Senior Citizen Day this week, I had the opportunity to celebrate some of CA-45's incredible seniors at this year's Seniors of Distinction Awards. These individuals come from all walks of life, having worked as engineers, nurses, teachers, advocates, and more. However, they all have a shared commitment to their community and helping their neighbors and friends. I'm proud to represent seniors like these in Congress and I'm inspired by their kindness and commitment to one another. In Washington, I will continue in my fight to protect essential resources like Social Security and Medicare for all of Southern California's seniors.

Improving Public Safety
Supporting our local law enforcement agencies is essential to combating crime and preserving our cities. With growing crime concerns in Southern California, we must equip law enforcement with the resources they need to protect our communities. This week, I was proud to support the Fullerton Police Department with federal funding I secured to revitalize the police station and enhance their efforts of public safety. This historic station will function more effectively, making our streets safer. Thank you to the Fullerton Police and to our local leaders who brought this issue to my attention and worked with me to secure federal funding.

Fighting for Taxpayers Against Fraud
Recent reporting proved that Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su, who oversaw California's state unemployment insurance program when over $30 billion was stolen by international fraudsters, wiped out a debt the State of California owed to federal taxpayers to pay back the fraudulent claims. She did this in her capacity as a federal bureaucrat, demonstrating a huge conflict of interest. This also came despite Su promising under my questioning before Congress that she had no plans to wipe out the debt. I will always stand up for taxpayers when government officials refuse to protect their hard-earned tax dollars, and am working to hold Julie Su accountable. Learn more from the Washington Times about efforts I'm leading in Congress to protect taxpayers and find answers.

As your U.S. Representative, I’m committed to helping you navigate various issues with federal agencies. My office can help expedite a passport, navigate the VA, obtain a federal tax return, and more. Addressing Crime at the Southern Border
In Southern California, we know more than anyone the effects of lax border policies. I wrote a piece for the Orange County Register this week on this very topic.
Under President Biden's watch, the U.S. has seen 10 million illegal border crossings. This lawlessness has contributed greatly to the increase in crime on our streets. The explosion of fentanyl is a serious consequence of illegal immigration. Fentanyl is currently the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-45, destroying so many lives and devastating family after family. During the Biden Administration the seizure of fentanyl pills has increased nearly 4,000%. Southern California deserves better. Our families and communities deserve better.

What I'm Reading |
Michelle Steel: Border crisis uniquely impacts Southern California
"The United States has seen 10 million illegal border crossings on President Biden and Vice President Harris’ watch. This dramatic increase in illegal immigration plays a significant role in the crime epidemic plaguing our communities. For communities in Southern California, the chief consequence of the Biden-Harris border crisis is the explosion of fentanyl. The fentanyl crisis is ripping families apart, killing over 200 Americans per day and serving as the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-45."

Su Creates Debt, Su Forgives Debt, Su Troubles Congress
"The entire California Republican delegation has signed a letter – written by Congresswoman Michelle Steel – demanding Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su explain why she has – yet again – possibly lied to Congress. At a hearing of the House Education and the Workforce Committee on May 1, Su testified specifically that it was “absolutely false” that she would forgive California of $32.6 billion pandemic of improperly made – read fraudulent, though she claims were accidental – pandemic unemployment payments. But that is exactly what she did."
