Happy Friday! School is officially back in session for students across the Second District. I've been participating in various back-to-school events and hosting meetings with our educators. As both a parent and grandmother, I know the transformative power of education for our children. I am committed to ensuring that our students, parents, and teachers receive the resources they need.

On August 28, I will host my annual State of the Black Woman Address which will include discussion panels and workshops covering economic justice, women's health, black female entrepreneurship, and more. Learn more about my event here.

Community Back to School Health and Wellness Resource Fair

Whether it be sports physicals or yearly vaccinations, the beginning of the school year is a crucial time for the health of families. I was delighted to host my annual Community Back to School Health and Wellness Resource Fair to organize these resources all under one roof. Thank you to the Village of Matteson, School District 159, and all of our community vendors for making this event possible.

CBC Foundation Back to School Event 

I joined the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation for their back-to-school event at Little Black Pearl in Kenwood. Little Black Pearl has supported arts education and enrichment in our community for over 30 years.

Rich Township High School Food Pantry

I toured the Rich Township High School Food Pantry and met with school officials. I personally thanked their team for their phenomenal work feeding our children and supporting our community. No child should go to class hungry.
