The DNC and Kamala Harris have set a new record for cringe and cluelessness with their “hope and joy” branding campaign as they preside over record hardship and raging genocide.
As the tightly choreographed DNC comes to a close, the synthetic “hope and joy” marketing blitz feels Orwellian and obscene compared to the real tears and desperation of the people outside crying out for basic human rights and an end to the horrific US-backed genocide in Gaza.
Delegates representing the Uncommitted movement tried to bring a bit of reality into the DNC bubble, but the Democrats refused to hear it, rejecting even the modest request to let a vetted Palestinian-American speaker give an approved speech. Outside the convention, protesters read the names of murdered Palestinian children, but passing DNC delegates covered their ears and hurried past - or even mocked and ridiculed those reading the names.
From the stage, prominent Democrats pronounced that Harris is “working tirelessly for a ceasefire” - a claim that’s not only false, but an outrageous whitewashing of the fact that the Biden-Harris administration is literally sending the weapons fueling genocide in Gaza.
Friend, the Democrats have shown again and again that they're not interested in listening to you. <[link removed]>DONATE <[link removed]>The lie about “working tirelessly for a ceasefire” is especially shameless, and it’s typical of the Democrats’ empty words. Kamala Harris may offer lip service to some nice-sounding policies, but where have those been for the last three and a half years? What happened to Biden-Harris promises like raising the minimum wage and creating a public option for healthcare? Nothing - these empty pledges were tossed out as soon as the election was over.
The brazen gaslighting continued with Michelle Obama declaring that Democrats “don’t cheat others to get ahead” and “don’t change the rules so we always win” - while they’re trying to sue us off the ballot in multiple states, hiring spies and infiltrators to sabotage us, and withholding public funding we qualified for months ago. The DNC refuses to let voters have a choice even within its own party, where party elites hand-picked Harris as Biden’s successor after managing to avoid any real primary process.
Kamala’s DNC acceptance speech was a predictable parade of centrist platitudes peppered with jingoistic claptrap designed to outflank the Republicans to the right. When she bellowed that she would make the US military the “most lethal fighting force in the world”, the crowd responded with chants of “U.S.A! U.S.A!” And she continued the disgusting gaslighting on Gaza with vague platitudes and crocodile tears while she and Biden are supplying the very bombs that are burning and shredding Palestinian children alive.
DNC elites picked Kamala the political chameleon because she will say or do whatever they want her to. And that means, as Biden promised his Wall Street backers in 2020, that “nothing will fundamentally change.”
While the Democrats have been acting out their rebranding show, I’ve been in the streets of Chicago meeting with and listening to the people shut out of the DNC - just as I did in Milwaukee during the RNC. We marched with the Poor People’s Army for healthcare and housing as human rights. We rallied with Workers Strike Back for a $25/hour minimum wage. And we joined daily marches and actions to stop the genocide in Gaza and cut off US support for Israel until it ends its brutal occupation and apartheid regime.
Unlike Kamala Harris and the Democrats, my running mate Butch Ware and I are listening to the people and fighting for the real change we need right now.
Just like this DNC, the Democratic Party is phony to its core because it works for the elite donor class, not the voters. The Democrats can spend their mountains of corporate money on slick rebranding campaigns to convince people that things will be different this time, but all they will ever do is less than the bare minimum, because that’s the most their donors will allow.
On just about any issue - workers’ rights, healthcare, housing, racial justice, immigration, climate change, voting rights, gun safety, women’s rights, you name it - Kamala Harris and the Democrats will do less than the bare minimum. And they will continue the endless wars that are dragging us closer and closer to the brink of a world war that humanity may not survive.
Again and again, the Democratic Party has shown that its function in the two-party system is to serve the same corporate imperialist agenda as the Republicans, while taking up the space where we should have a genuine people’s party.
Enough is enough. We can’t waste any more time hoping for change from the same politicians who’ve betrayed us again and again. Real hope will only come from real change, and it’s up to us to make it happen.
Together we can lead the charge for real democracy, an end to endless war and genocide, an economy that works for working people, a livable future for our children, and an America and a world that works for all of us.
