John,
As of today, the U.S. has more than 1 million confirmed cases of COVID-19. And
we know, unfortunately, that for every confirmed case there are many more that
are uncounted. This tragic milestone is a stark reminder of how critical it is
that we continue to follow the guidance of experts and keep fighting to stop
the spread of COVID-19.
That approach is working. Infection and hospitalization rates are leveling off
where people are letting expertise and science -- not politics -- guide their
approach. However, the coordinated, global response this crisis calls for is
not taking shape, largely because America has not stepped up to lead.
Read the latest piece from Mike, "If Trump Won't Lead the World, Others Must,"
about the leadership gap in the global COVID-19 response, and where we need to
go from here.

This is a global pandemic -- but right now, the leaders taking real action and
finding solutions in the U.S. are mayors, governors, and local officials.
Bloomberg Philanthropies has launched programs to bring mayors and public
health experts together, tracking and sharing their actions and supporting the
best possible responses. But more needs to be done.
Read Mike's article to find out how he believes others can and should fill the
leadership gap:
