Friend,
I just dropped off my daughter Gwyn for her first day of Kindergarten. It's exciting to see her begin her public school journey along with thousands of Iowa kids heading back to school this week.

It was a bittersweet morning, knowing that while first days are exciting, they’re filled with nervousness, too. Not just for Gwyn, but also for me as a parent, and State Senator. Because, as I gave a goodbye hug to Gwyn, I was reminded of just how crucial it is that we support our public schools so every parent can be confident their kids will reach their full potential.

As a product of Iowa's public education system, I constantly heard people talk about how Iowa had the very best public schools. Unfortunately, Republicans in the State Senate have passed laws these last few years that have greatly—and intentionally—damaged this status.
Using public dollars to fund private school vouchers, taking away rights of teachers to negotiate fair wages and benefits for the work they do, and making it harder for Area Education Agencies to provide critical services to our students. Iowans deserve a better deal on public education.
We need to get back to focusing on the issues that actually matter, and that starts with adequately funding our public schools.
I’m running for re-election so that I can keep fighting for Gwyn, and the thousands of other students sitting in Iowa classrooms today, because they deserve the same great public education that I got as a kid—and all the life the opportunities to succeed that go with that great education.
Can I count on you to donate to my campaign today, so that I can keep fighting in the State Senate for our kids and the quality Iowa education they deserve?
