John,

This week, our community faced one of the most challenging moments in recent memory. The devastating floods and storms related to Hurricane Ernesto have taken a toll on countless families and businesses across Connecticut's 5th Congressional District.

The impact of this week's flooding is catastrophic and I support Governor Lamont's Emergency Declaration.

In these floods, families have lost their homes, their memories, and in some devastating cases, their lives.

In the face of this crisis, I’ve been deeply moved by the resilience and strength of our neighbors. From emergency responders working around the clock to volunteers offering a helping hand, our community has come together in remarkable ways.

Thank you to all the first responders, road construction workers, and municipal leaders who are working tirelessly to help residents rebuild.

I will continue to do whatever I can to support our neighbors in need.

"After torrential rain led to deadly and destructive flooding across parts of Connecticut and New York, officials on Tuesday continued assessing the damage from the unexpected surge in water that took the lives of at least two people, collapsed homes and ravaged entire towns.

Between Saturday night and Monday morning, parts of southwest Connecticut received over a foot of rain while parts of Long Island got just over 10 inches, according to the National Weather Service office in Uptown, New York. In several areas, multiple inches fell within a few hours, causing flash floods that quickly transformed roads into powerful rivers that trapped people in their homes and cars.

'We are talking about rainfall in some areas in the 1,000-year level,'Brenda Bergeron, deputy commissioner at the state Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, said at a news conference on Monday, describing the deluge as 'historic, unprecedented flooding.'"

I wrote an op-ed for the Waterbury Republican American. It'd mean a lot to me if you took time to read it

"Just a few weeks ago my opponent, incumbent Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, told a group of supporters, as reported by the Waterbury Republican American, that she would participate in several debates. Sadly, as of this writing, Congresswoman Hayes has not accepted a single invitation.

While frustrating, it comes as no surprise, given the incumbent’s failure to compromise as a legislator and her unwillingness to work across the aisle. In Congress, the incumbent has been ranked the most partisan member of Connecticut’s congressional delegation, and out of all four hundred thirty five members of Congress, only 29 are more partisan than she…"

We just launched an ad, and it aired during the 2024 Democrat National Convention!

People are beyond frustrated by the partisanship that’s broken Washington. I will never compromise my values, but we cannot be afraid to reach across the aisle to tackle the most pressing issues facing our communities. We’re not afraid to talk to anyone, and we know the most important thing is delivering change for the hard working people of Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District.

"The state House Democratic Campaign Committee (HDCC) tried to exploit flooding from Sunday’s historic storm for political gain. Candace from the HDCC sent a text with a photograph of a flooded road, claiming “Southbury’s infrastructure needs an upgrade but our town’s current leadership seems to think ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ is good public policy.”

Candace may not realize that the House Democrats have enjoyed control of the House for 37 years. That’s plenty of time to have addressed the infrastructure needs of affluent communities like Southbury… With two people dead and the cost of the flooding still being assessed, House Democrats might want to take a break from campaigning in the disaster areas for a few days.

Residents of Southbury and other towns may have wondered in their misery and fear where U.S. Representative Jahana Hayes has been since Sunday. She stepped up in front of the cameras on Tuesday night and showed them. She was in Chicago at the Democratic National Convention. Hayes, seeking a fourth term in November, cast the Connecticut delegation’s votes, 73 for Kamala Harris and 1 present."

"There are 73 days until Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 5. But if Americans vote like they did in the last two election cycles, most of them will have already cast a ballot before the big day.

Early voting starts as soon as Sept. 6 for eligible voters, with seven battleground states sending out ballots to at least some voters the same month. It makes the next few months less a countdown to Election Day, and more the beginning of 'election season.'"

"Democrat presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris’s economic plan would increase taxes by $5 trillion over ten years, according to Americans for Tax Reform (ATR).

Harris’s campaign announced an enormous economic package on Monday that would undo former President Donald Trump’s tax cuts, claiming it would be part of 'a fiscally responsible way to put money back in the pockets of working people and ensure billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share.'

Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act slashed the corporate tax rate from 35 to 21 percent, lowered income tax rates, and doubled the standard deduction."

"US job growth in the year through March was likely far less robust than initially estimated, which risks fueling concerns that the Federal Reserve is falling further behind the curve to lower interest rates.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Wells Fargo & Co. economists expect the government’s preliminary benchmark revisions on Wednesday to show payrolls growth in the year through March was at least 600,000 weaker than currently estimated — about 50,000 a month.

While JPMorgan Chase & Co. forecasters see a decline of about 360,000, Goldman Sachs indicates it could be as large as a million."
