James, the Uncommitted Movement had a modest request at the DNC: a speaking slot for one Palestinian-American. The DNC said No.
The Democratic Party made space on the DNC stage for Republicans, the CEO of American Express, and sheriffs cheering increases in police funding. The Party could have, and should have, made space for Palestinian-Americans.
The DNC made a choice to exclude Palestinian voices from the Convention stage, but we cannot stay silent when the U.S. government is funding and arming Netanyahu’s military.
Add your name: End U.S. support for Netanyahu’s relentless bombing of Gaza. It is a moral necessity to change American policy immediately!
This is not hard to solve. If our leaders in Congress and the White House wanted to end the war on Gaza, they would. As Ilhan said outside the Convention, “If you really wanted a Ceasefire, you just stop sending the weapons.”
But the U.S. government has refused to stop sending weapons to Netanyahu. In fact, the Biden administration just signed a $20 billion weapons deal with Israel. How can this go on?
The UAW, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, and pro-Peace progressives like Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and many others joined the demand for a Palestinian speaker — for space on the DNC stage to call for Peace. It was still denied.
The proposed speaker from the pro-Peace movement, Georgia State Rep. and Palestinian-American Ruwa Romman, was ready to urge Democrats to broker a Ceasefire and end the killing of Palestinians. Her speech included support of Kamala Harris. It included calls to defeat Trump, who she said, “uses my identity as a Palestinian as a slur.”
Most Democrats support a Ceasefire and an end to U.S. support for the murder of 40,000 civilians in Gaza. The Biden administration and Congress must act to save Palestinian lives.
Add your name: Stop sending bombs to Netanyahu and the Israeli military! It is unconscionable to continue American support for the atrocities against the Palestinian people.
When we organize, we win.
