Throughout the school year, there are so many heroes on the ground who
work tirelessly to ensure that children are getting the food they
need.
Cafeteria manager Stacey Truman is one of those unsung heroes.
Stacey has been working at Kingston Elementary School in Virginia
Beach for two decades. Every day, she makes sure children at her
school are fed and she also shares notes with words of encouragement
that go with their meals, just like she does for her own kids at home.
But, John, there are so many
children out there who don't have someone like Stacey to pack them a
meal and write them an encouraging note. Will you be the one to
brighten a child's day now by virtually packing their lunch box and
adding a note to go with it?

Stacey begins her day at 4 a.m. and is usually the last person to
leave school at the end of the day.
In addition to the special notes she writes for each student, Stacey
displays hand-painted artwork of the kids' favorite TV and movie
characters exchanging positive messages. The school cafeteria is also
a festive place around the holidays thanks to her decorations. She
does all of this in her free time and with her own money.
Stacey doesn't expect any recognition for all of her hard work. What
matters most to her is making sure that children know they are seen
and loved.
"You never know what a child is going through at home," she says. "You
might be the only person showing them kindness or feeding them that
day."
Right now, through our virtual activity, you have an opportunity to be
like Stacey and to share some love and encouragement with a child at
school like she does every single day.

compassionate people out there who care about them and want them to be
