When people picture a campaign manager’s job, they have a tendency to picture someone power-walking down an ornate hallway, or sitting at the head of a conference table giving an impromptu speech about the meaning of democracy set to a dramatic film score.

In reality, I spend a lot of time reading over spreadsheets. It’s less glamorous, but the fact is, our ability to run a successful campaign will depend, in large part, on cold hard math.

So I’ve spent all day going through every detail of our budget. I’ll spare you all the details, but the upshot is this: we need enough resources to run a serious ad campaign all the way through Election Day. Right now, we have the funds to get us through early October.

Listen, we’re not going to get out of this bind by hoping a huge check materializes out of nowhere. Our only options are either a) ask our grassroots supporters to help us close the gap, or b) cut our ad budget back dramatically.

I’m really hoping we don’t have to turn to plan B.
