Last night, after four days of powerful speeches from the best and brightest members of the Democratic Party, Kamala Harris took the stage at the Democratic National Convention and accepted her nomination as the Democratic candidate for president of the United States.
What we saw last night from Vice President Harris was nothing short of remarkable: she projected strength, grace, sharp policy acumen, a fierce love for our country, and an unwavering determination to make it better.
As we watched Vice President Harris speak boldly on the economy, reproductive freedom, gun violence, voting rights, and global security, we — and millions of Americans across the country — thought: This is what a president looks like.
"We trust women," she declared. "When Congress passes a bill to restore reproductive freedom, as president of the United States, I will proudly sign it into law."
And she was crystal-clear about exactly why reproductive rights need defending at this moment: because Donald Trump handpicked a U.S. Supreme Court that he knew would decimate the national right to abortion. In fact, Harris delivered a stunning rebuke of the former president and his dangerous anti-choice agenda: "Donald Trump is an unserious man," she warned. "But the consequences of putting Donald Trump back in the White House are extremely serious."
Kamala Harris is the best candidate to lead our party and our country forward. She's ready to take on the anti-choice, anti-democracy extremists of the Republican Party — and she's got what it takes to win.
