Christians Have a Responsibility and Privilege to Get Engaged in Politics

By: Zachary Mettler

There are around 25 million Christians in the United States who don’t vote consistently — one out of every three Christians. If self-professed followers of Christ voted, they would have the power to single-handedly change the course of our nation.

The Daily Citizen recently spoke with Bunni Pounds, President and CEO of Christians Engaged, a nonprofit organization that seeks to get Christians involved in politics.

The organization seeks to “awaken, educate, and empower believers in Jesus Christ,” and exhorts all Christians to take three steps to get involved:

- Pray for our nation and elected officials regularly;
- Vote in every local, state, and national election to impact our culture;
- Engage in civic education or involvement for the well-being of our local communities and our nation.

How US IVF is Helping Parents to Have Only Girls
By: Daily Citizen Staff

When individuals and couples consider using IVF, it opens up a world of opportunities and some of them are indeed very concerning.

First, the child is not created in the womb, but in a Petri dish.

Parents can also know the sex of the developing life while in the clinical Petri dish, prior to its insertion into the mother’s womb.

Most countries in the world prohibit sex-selection IVF. Not in the United States. People here can reject a fertilized egg (a new person) simply because it is not the sex they desired for their child. Slate magazine reports that many Americans incorrectly believe such choices are forbidden. They explain,

“In reality, it has now become a standard part of IVF here. For some, the option to sex select is a perk of an otherwise exacting process. For others, it’s the whole point of doing IVF in the first place.”

Slate informs us that Jeffrey Steinberg, the founder of the Fertility Institutes in Los Angeles, holds that using IVF for the purpose of choosing a child’s sex brings in about $500 million each year for such clinics, nearly five percent of the $8.2 billion U.S. IVF market.

Many are using the technology, Slate asserts, “to create designer families.”

The title of the Slate piece highlights a disturbing trend.

Shield Laws Enable Chemical Abortions in Pro-Life States
By: Emily Washburn

The mail-order abortion business is booming under “telemedicine shield laws” — state policies that protect doctors who prescribe and send chemical abortion kits to states where abortion is illegal.

The New York Times calls it the new “war between the states” on abortion.

Volunteers for the Massachusetts Medication Abortion Project (MAP), an oft-publicized mail-order abortion service, told The Wall Street Journal they’re simply providing “critical healthcare” to women in states that don’t offer it.

But pro-life advocates like John Seago, the president of Texas Right to Life, say organizations like MAP are committing a crime.

“You have states not just picking their own strategy but trying to completely sabotage the governing efforts of their neighboring states,” the Times quotes Seago.

“It can’t stand.”

Pro-life states want to challenge shield laws in court, but acknowledge it’s a tricky proposition.

In the meantime, organizations like MAP are pumping pills into pro-life states by the thousands.

It’s women who are paying the price.

Dennis Quaid: Facebook Restricts Promotion of ‘Reagan’ Film
By: Jeff Johnston

Actor Dennis Quaid said that Facebook was “throttling advertising and promotion” for his upcoming film Reagan, the biographical drama where Quaid plays President Ronald Reagan.

The movie, which also features Penelope Ann Miller, John Voight and Leslie-Anne Down, opens in theaters Friday, August 30.

Quaid told Newsweek about the social media giant shutting down promotion of the film, saying:

“Facebook is once again censoring the free flow of ideas, deciding what’s best for us to see and hear; only this time it’s throttling advertising and promotion for my movie about Ronald Reagan.”

Sounding Reaganesque in his challenge, the actor sent an email statement to Newsweek where he asked Facebook and Meta, its parent organization:

“Like the old Soviet Union — are we turning into a country of tech oligarchs who control the platform of groupthink to silence the individual or ‘other’ groups?”

Quaid added:

“Freedom of expression and a free market are what Americans are known for. Reagan said that the freedoms that we take for granted can be lost in a generation.

“Censorship like this, coupled with our silent assent, is a cautionary indication that we could be in danger of losing those freedoms.”

Preborn Baby Smiles After Hearing Dad’s Voice During Ultrasound
By: Zachary Mettler

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words. That’s especially true of 3D/4D ultrasound technology that clearly shows the truth — life begins in the womb.

According to The New York Post, a routine ultrasound scan of a 32-week-old preborn baby in Xanxere, Brazil “captured the incredible moment an unborn baby appeared to smile at the sound of her father’s voice.”

“The baby is definitely listening if the family talks at home … and they will begin to identity them,” the doctor who performed the ultrasound scan explained.

Indeed, 32-week-old preborn babies can easily hear and recognize their father’s voice.

According to the Charlotte Lozier Institute, “By 22 weeks the [baby’s] inner ear has developed. The baby [can] move after hearing a loud, low-pitched sound, such as her father’s voice.”

Truly, preborn babies are just as human — and just as alive — as you and me.

Yet, some pro-abortion advocates argue that babies aren’t alive. How can we respond to that idea? Enter the SLED Test.
