Phil Donahue passed away Sunday night after a long illness. But he remains an inspiration to us every day.

Friend,
Over 20 years ago, in the run-up to George W. Bush’s disastrous invasion of Iraq, there was only one cable news host willing to challenge U.S. government lies and resist the flood of pro-war propaganda taking over nearly every major media outlet from The New York Times to Fox News.
That journalist was Phil Donahue. And MSNBC fired him for it.
While Common Dreams stood on the front lines in opposition to the Iraq invasion in 2002, it was a lonely place as nearly every corporate news outlet and far too many mainstream journalists fell in line with the rush to war.
But Phil Donahue — who passed away Sunday night after a long illness — was not among them. As we honor him now in words, we also do so in practice by remaining true to that legacy and continuing each day to tackle the issues that the corporate media never will as we lift up the brave voices fighting for a better, more peaceful world.
To keep Common Dreams publishing daily, we must hit our vital Summer Campaign fundraising goal in the week ahead. Will you make a donation to help keep independent, progressive journalism alive? ([link removed])
Rest in peace, Phil. Thank you for your humanity.
