Last night, Vice President Kamala Harris formally accepted the Democratic nomination for President of the United States – and friend, my team and I are fired up here at Trahan HQ!
The past few days at the DNC were incredible. Democrats from across the country displayed enthusiasm we haven’t felt in years, and an eagerness to begin a new chapter in the American story. Vice President Harris’ inspiring speech perfectly encapsulated the week.
Kamala laid out both her impressive track record and her forward-looking vision for our nation. Having grown up in a working class neighborhood like myself, she underscored the importance of the values her upbringing instilled in her – the values of community, hard work, and faith.
These values are not just shared amongst Democrats, but among Americans from all backgrounds. And while she was accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination for President, she made it clear that if people trust her with their vote, she will be a leader for every American – no matter their political party.
It’s time to turn the page on the divisiveness of the past, and instead move forward under the shared beliefs that unite us. Strengthening the middle class; defending our fundamental freedoms to privacy, reproductive autonomy, and the right to vote; standing up for our allies who are fighting against authoritarianism and extremism, while taking care of those who courageously defend our country; ensuring that our children can grow up in safe communities free from gun violence; and so much more.
Kamala’s speech delivered a message rooted in optimism for our nation’s future, and as a parent who wakes up every day focused on the country my daughters will inherit, that hit home for me. As she aptly said last, “the future is always worth fighting for.” The next 73 days are going to be the fight that decides whether we continue progressing as a nation, or slip backwards into the darkness that the MAGA extremists want to return us to.
