Dear John,

I hope you had a chance to read Neela's email about anti-LGBTIQ educational oppression around the world.

This is an all-too-real violation of our basic human rights and an attack on queer people’s potential.

Outright and our partners are leading the effort to document this crisis and develop solutions. We need your help. Please make a gift today.

Subject: The devastating oppression of being denied an education

Dear John,

When we hear about anti-LGBTIQ oppression around the world, the headlines tend to focus on a raid at a nightclub or violence on the streets. But attacks on our humanity go deeper… to the point of denying LGBTIQ people the right to go to school.

Outright International is helping shed light on this critically important issue by producing an authoritative international report on LGBTIQ educational deprivation. We are committed to completing this study and getting it to governments, media, and social justice influencers worldwide.

Make a Gift Today

Your gift will help us and our partners document horrific evidence of laws, policies, and practices that limit LGBTIQ people’s right to education and harm countless people in countries all across the globe:

  • In Kenya, religious-fueled queerphobia is causing wanton expulsion of LGBTIQ students, unchecked bullying and violence, sexual abuse, and traumatizing “conversion” mandates;
  • In Hungary, the autocratic leader Viktor Orbán is fanning anti-LGBTIQ discrimination and violence by erasing sexual and gender diversity materials from school curricula. This “othering” forces many to hide their identities and face unchecked aggression;
  • In India, countless students who can't bear bullying and violence in school settings and online are dying by suicide in increasing numbers. An effort to publish a manual to help teachers support them was quashed by far-right extremists;
  • In the United States, state legislatures are passing an unprecedented number of laws that deny trans and non-binary children safe access to bathroom facilities;
  • In Chile, protective laws and policies on inclusive education are threatened by orchestrated outrage claiming schools are trying to “homosexualize” children;
  • And in several countries, intersex children have faced forced undressing by peers and ridicule and exclusion by teachers.

Our research is taken seriously by policymakers and journalists worldwide, and our recommended solutions enable activists and our global partners to take concrete action.

Help LGBTIQ students access their rights to education

Hateful anti-LGBTIQ extremists — often funded by anti-gender religious groups from the Global North — are denying countless young people their education and contributing to policies that chase them from school, consigning them to lives of low opportunity, poverty, and social marginalization.

It’s wrong. It must be exposed. And we must work with our global partners and LGBTIQ family to produce concrete change. We can do that, but we need your support.

DONATE NOW

Few things are more destructive than being driven out of school. Outright is confronting this worldwide scourge, and we urgently need your help. Please support our far-reaching efforts with a generous contribution today.

In solidarity,
