Dear neighbor:
There’s nothing quite like a Jersey summer—whether it’s watching the sunset from the boardwalk, enjoying fresh-caught seafood, or exploring our wonderful downtowns. Bruce Springsteen was right when he sang in Jersey Girl, "'Cause down the shore everything's all right."
While we’ve been making the most of what New Jersey has to offer this season, we’ve also been hard at work on several important initiatives. This week, I celebrated India Independence Day in Old Bridge and Iselin, secured vital federal funding for Monmouth Beach and Asbury Park, and shared my thoughts on the harmful impact of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in the Star-Ledger.
Celebrating India Independence Day in Old Bridge and Iselin
This month, we marked India Independence Day with a flag-raising ceremony at the Old Bridge Municipal Building alongside Councilman Kiran Desai and other local leaders. It was a great moment to recognize the cultural diversity that adds so much to our district. Later that day, at the Indo-American Cultural Society in Iselin, I spoke about the importance of the U.S.-India relationship, especially in defense and national security. Strengthening these ties is something our community takes seriously, and it's always encouraging to see the partnership between our nations grow.
Federal Funding for Monmouth Beach Fire Department
I’ve helped to secure $55,581 in federal funding for the Monmouth Beach Fire Department through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighter Grants Program. This grant will be used to replace over 5,000 feet of fire hose, ensuring our firefighters have the tools they need to keep our community safe. It’s straightforward—better equipment means better safety for everyone.
$1.1 Million for Asbury Park Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade
In other good news, I’ve locked in $1.1 million in federal funding to upgrade the Asbury Park Wastewater Treatment Plant. This funding will go toward installing a new screening system to filter out harmful debris, protect essential pumping systems, and boost the plant’s overall efficiency. It’s a solid investment in the future of Asbury Park, ensuring we keep our waterways clean and our coastal environment thriving.
Check Out My Op-Ed on Reproductive Health
If you haven't had the chance yet, I encourage you to read my op-ed in last Sunday’s Star-Ledger. I discuss the far-reaching consequences of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and the alarming impact on reproductive health care. For example, in states with restrictive abortion laws, medical residents are now practicing on pieces of fruit instead of receiving critical hands-on training. This isn’t just a theoretical issue—it’s a real threat to women’s health and safety. . You can read the full op-ed here.
