Kamala Harris Accepts Nomination by the DNC for President

Ed Morrissey: First impressions: Good delivery of a weak speech. No specifics as to what she will do as president. She talked more about Trump’s agenda (and got that wrong) than any of her own initiatives. Spent too much time on her “personal story,” and not on our business (HotAir). David Harris Jr.: As expected, Kamala Harris’ speech is filled with lies – this clip about January 6. “When he failed (to throw away your votes) he sent an armed mob to the Capitol… and fanned the flames.” Not one firearm entered the Capitol on J6 and Trump called for people to be peaceful (X). Benny Johnson: KAMALA HARRIS: “I know the importance of safety and security especially at our border.” Blatant LIES (X). Trump War Room: KAMALA HARRIS: “I believe everyone has a right to safety, to dignity, and to justice.” Unless you’re one of the countless American citizens who have been victimized — or worse — by an illegal alien Kamala ferried into the country, then you’re out of luck (X). Townhall: TRUMP on Kamala Harris’ acceptance speech: “Why didn’t she do the things that she’s complaining about?… She could’ve done it three and half years ago. She could do it tonight… She talks, but she doesn’t do it. It’s no action” (X).

Kamala Harris’ Proposed Platform is Intentionally Vague
How are the American people expected to vote for someone when they do not know their positions on issues? How are voters supposed to keep the elected official accountable for empty promises? Post Millennial: On CNN, hosts discussed how with the Democratic platform still having many mentions of President Joe Biden along with policy positions, Kamala Harris can “stay vague” about the specifics of her policy agenda going into the Democratic National Convention (DNC). The comments came from Jake Tapper, who said that having Biden mentioned would leave policies for Harris “vague” and “unspecific,” and allowed the campaign to place blame on Biden (Post Millennial). Morgan Ortagus: “We have not heard one word about foreign policy all week…” Martha MacCallum. Because under Biden/Harris: Kabul fell to the Taliban. Russia invaded Ukraine. Hamas launched 10/7 in Israel. Iran is on the brink of a nuclear weapon. China is ready to escalate and wants to invade Taiwan (X). Zino: CNN points out how Kamala Harris is avoiding discussion around her policies in order to “stay vague” and “unspecific.” Transparency only becomes an issue when you have something to hide (X). Joey Mannarino: Every Democrat interviewed said that Kamala Harris should NOT release her policy platforms prior to the election. These people literally just want to walk blindly into Communism (X).

Kamala Harris Supports $5 Trillion in Increased Tax Proposals, Refuses to Answer Questions About Policies
Wall Street Journal: Vice President Kamala Harris supports the tax increases President Biden put forward in his recent budget proposal, according to her campaign. Biden’s budget plan includes a slew of revenue raisers, including a proposed 25% minimum tax on individuals with more than $100 million in wealth. Getting those tax increases through a divided or GOP Congress would be impossible and it would be difficult even if Democrats are in control. Harris has also proposed tax cuts beyond Biden’s budget, including an exemption for tipped workers, a $6,000 tax credit for parents of newborns and an expanded child tax credit that the Biden budget doesn’t extend beyond 2025 (Wall Street Journal). Washington Examiner: Vice President Kamala Harris has not spoken publicly about her reported embrace of President Joe Biden’s $5 trillion tax plan, which includes the controversial measure of taxing the unrealized capital gains of the nation’s wealthiest. With no fanfare or announcement, the Harris campaign signaled that she supports the proposed tax increases that were part of Biden’s 2025 budget proposal this week. The ambitious tax increases, if passed, would mark a major change in U.S. tax policy, but Harris, whom Republicans have worked to tie to the more unpopular Biden, has not discussed the tax agenda (Washington Examiner).

Donald Trump Visits Southern Border, Unveils New Policies for Border Security
New York Post: Former President Donald Trump on Thursday vowed to impose stiff punishments – including the death penalty – on illegal migrants found guilty of committing heinous crimes. “We will impose tough new sentences on illegal alien criminals, including 10-year mandatory minimum sentences for anyone found guilty of human smuggling; a guaranteed life sentence for any one found guilty of child trafficking; and a death penalty for anyone guilty of child or woman sex trafficking,” Trump said at a news conference in Cochise County, Ariz., just steps from the US-Mexico border. Trump also called for capital punishment for anyone convicted of killing “police, sheriffs, border patrol, ICE or law enforcement officials.” Trump, flanked by law enforcement officials and family members of migrant crime victims, toured the remnants of sections of a border wall he approved during his presidency that was never erected once the Biden administration took control of the project. The former president inspected the piles of steel sitting in the Arizona sun, seemingly rusting from neglect (New York Post). DC Draino: Trump unveils new border crime policies. 10 year mandatory minimum sentence for anyone guilty of human smuggling. Mandatory life sentence for anyone guilty of child trafficking. Death penalty for anyone guilty of sex trafficking. Death penalty on major drug dealers and traffickers (X).

Arizona’s Supreme Court Allows Law to Pass Requiring ID to Vote
Katie Pavlich: The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a new Arizona law — which requires individuals to provide proof of citizenship in order to register to vote — can go into effect immediately (Townhall). Virginia AG Jason Miyares: The Supreme Court just allowed Arizona’s law requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote to go into effect. I’m proud to have backed this common sense law through an amicus brief at the Supreme Court (X).

Google to Invest $250 Million to Fund Newsrooms, AI in California
National Review: Google struck a first-in-the-nation deal worth as much as $250 million on Wednesday to fund newsrooms in California, a move that not only garnered praise from Governor Gavin Newsom but also pushback from unions representing journalists in the state. In finalizing the deal, California lawmakers agreed to abandon proposed legislation that would have placed a financial burden on Google and other tech giants (National Review). Hill: The initiative will bring in nearly $250 million in funding, $180 million of which will go toward California newsrooms and $62.5 million of which will go toward a new artificial intelligence (AI) program, according to details provided by California Assemblymember Buffy Wicks’s (D) office (Hill).

Venezuela Supreme Court Affirms President Nicolás Maduro the Victor of the Election
Wall Street Journal: Venezuela’s Supreme Court on Thursday declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner of last month’s disputed elections and tried to discredit opposition evidence that the strongman lost in a landslide, deepening the country’s political crisis. The court’s ruling was expected, as it is stacked with loyalists to Maduro’s ruling Socialist Party. Maduro, who has ruled with an increasingly authoritarian bent over 11 years, tasked the court with refereeing the election dispute, part of a strategy to combat fraud allegations after the July 28 vote where Maduro claimed victory without presenting detailed electoral data (Wall Street Journal). Just the News: The ratification means that Maduro has now been elected to his third six-year term as the country’s leader. He was first elected in 2012, and took office in January of 2013. Backlash over the election has resulted in widespread protests and criminal investigations into opposition leader Maria Corina Machado and Gonzalez. The pair are being investigated for multiple crimes, including inciting military service members to commit crimes (Just the News).

CNN Fact-Checks Democrat Who Claimed Donald Trump Wrote Project 2025 Book
Townhall: Trying to tie the Trump-Vance ticket to Project 2025, an initiative from the Heritage Foundation, is the lie that just won’t die. Such a connection has been fact-checked plenty of times before, including by CNN, and fact-checker Daniel Dale was forced to weigh in again on Wednesday night after Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), who is running to represent Delaware in the U.S. Senate, falsely claimed Donald Trump “wrote a book… Project 2025.” The outrageous claim came during the congresswoman’s speech on Wednesday night, with Dale on the network to fact-check such claims hours late… Trump has repeatedly distanced himself from Project 2025, with CNN also mentioning he has said that some parts of the 920-document are “absolutely ridiculous and abysmal” (Townhall). Trump War Room: CNN fact checks Lisa Rochester’s lie that President Trump “wrote Project 2025.” (President Trump has nothing to do with Project 2025) (X).
