John,
As we gear up for the get out the vote season, our goal is simple: talk to every single voter in CA-34.
That’s what community-grown grassroots movements do.
It’s how we ensure that every voice is heard, every concern is addressed, and every vote is earned.
This isn’t just about winning an election; it’s about building a true partnership with the people of our district, and that starts with honest conversations at the doorsteps of every household.
But trust me, it’s no easy task.
Reaching every voter requires a massive effort—from phone banking to door-to-door canvassing to ensuring our message reaches people through mailers and digital ads.
It takes resources, dedication, and a whole lot of teamwork.
To win this seat, we need to reach our "win number," and based on our cost per vote from last time, we need to raise around $500,000.
As you can see, campaign expenses grow incredibly fast.
The good news is that last time, our opponent, Jimmy Gomez, outspent us by nearly a 7 to 1 margin, and we still came within a percentage point of defeating him. We don’t have to match Jimmy and his special interest supporters dollar for dollar—we just need enough resources to help us finish what we started. Contribute today to get us across the finish line.
We believe in transparent leadership, so I want to share some of our internal campaign strategy with you and explain exactly why we need to raise this amount:
- Mailers: $100,000+ – Getting our message directly into voters’ hands is crucial.
-
Canvassers: $65,000 – We need boots on the ground, talking to voters face-to-face, and our team will always be guaranteed a fair wage.
-
Ads (including digital): The rest of our budget will ensure that everyone sees and hears our message.
Jimmy Gomez already has all this special interest money lined up, just waiting to be deployed.
He’s nervous about losing this seat, so he’s already running ads on YouTube and Hulu.
He has the money to spend early and often because he’s backed by corporate donors who don’t want to see real change in Washington.
As Senator Bernie Sanders said at the DNC, "We must ensure that billionaires and special interests are not allowed to buy elections in either party."
He was talking about people like Jimmy Gomez and his lot. According to Open Secrets, this cycle ALONE Jimmy has taken nearly $600,000 from corporate PACs and right-wing special interest groups like AIPAC.
They’re trying to drown out the voices of real people with their deep pockets, but we’re not going to let that happen.
Our campaign is about grassroots organizing and community power.
We need funds for our organizing tools and to hire the team to help us talk to every voter in CA-34. Your contribution today will go directly toward these efforts. We have the momentum, we have the people, and with your help, we’ll have the resources to win.
Let’s show Jimmy and his corporate backers that our district isn’t for sale.
It’s time for us,
David Kim
