You can help Blaine Adamson defend freedom at the Kentucky Supreme Court

Dear John,

Preparations to defend Kentucky T-shirt printer Blaine Adamson have kicked into high gear. Recently, the Kentucky Supreme Court announced it would hear arguments in Blaine’s case on August 23.

Blaine has won twice in court already. But the government refuses to accept defeat. It is now asking the Kentucky Supreme Court to force Blaine to print messages that violate his faith.

This is a critical moment, John. Blaine has a chance to secure an important victory, but he needs your prayers and generous support today to help defend his religious freedom.

Blaine was sued for his faith

Blaine owns Hands On Originals, a small promotional printing company in Lexington. He works hard to support his family, provide jobs for his employees, and honor God in all he does.

Then one day, without warning, his life turned upside down.

It started in 2012, when the Gay and Lesbian Services Organization (GLSO) asked Blaine to print shirts promoting the local pride festival. Blaine knew he had to decline the request. He could not in good conscience print a message that was so clearly at odds with his faith and its teachings.

Blaine offered to connect the festival organizers to another printer that he works with. This wasn’t the first time that Blaine declined to print a message that conflicted with his conscience. It’s standard practice in the promotional printing industry.

Blaine has declined to print shirts expressing violent messages, shirts promoting a strip club, and pens promoting a sexually explicit video. Every time he denies a request, Blaine offers to connect that customer to another printer who will match his price.

But the GLSO wasn’t satisfied.

The group sent a press release to the Lexington newspaper. LGBT groups called for a boycott of Blaine’s business. He received hateful emails, phone calls, and Facebook comments. Lexington’s mayor publicly criticized him. And some customers began pulling their business.

The GLSO also filed a discrimination complaint with the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission. The Commission ordered Blaine to attend “diversity training” and print messages that conflict with his religious beliefs.

Blaine quickly realized that this situation could change his life.

If the government compels Blaine to print messages that violate his conscience, he might be forced out of the business he helped build—and the work he loves. He could lose the way that he provides for his family.

Thankfully, Blaine decided to fight back.

You can help Blaine win round three

John, you’ve made it possible for ADF to come alongside Blaine and help him fight for religious freedom.

Blaine is just a regular guy. He didn’t have extra money lying around to hire an attorney. He didn’t have legal knowledge to take on the government. And he didn’t know how to calm the firestorm that surrounded his life.

But Blaine had faith.

And then something big happened. He had help—lots of it.

When we heard about Blaine’s situation, we were able to step in immediately and defend him free of charge. Because of God’s provision and your sacrificial giving, Blaine has the help he needs to fight back.

And he didn’t just fight back—he’s won—twice. But it never should have gotten this far.

All Blaine did was decline to print a message. He serves everyone—but if he can’t print a certain message, he won’t do it for anyone. It doesn’t matter who is making the request.

But if the government has its way, Blaine would be forced to print countless messages that violate his faith.

Can you imagine, John? Being told by the government that you must use your business to express a message that goes against the core of who you are and what you stand for? That is not freedom—and that is not the America you know and love.

If Blaine loses his case, it could have a domino effect on people nationwide who are living and working consistently with their deeply held beliefs.

We can’t let that happen.

We’re praying that God will grant Blaine victory once again. And we’re praying that God will move in the hearts of thousands of people like you to see what is at stake in this case and commit to the battle for religious freedom.

Already, a group of generous Ministry Friends have answered the call and provided a $2 million challenge grant to help defend Blaine and others like him. Will you give today to further the impact for freedom during this very critical time?

There is a lot at stake—for Blaine—and for us all

The government has a responsibility to uphold free speech and protect our religious freedom. But in Blaine’s case, the government has become freedom’s greatest threat.

These are the times we’re living in, John. Opponents of religious freedom want to strip away our freedom to live and work consistently with our deeply held beliefs. And they’re going to extreme lengths to punish those who are willing to stand for their faith.

But praise God that He continues to provide us with the resources we need to fight back. ADF has become one of America's most successful constitutional advocates at the U.S. Supreme Court, having won nine cases at the High Court since 2011. And we're winning nearly 80% of all our cases.

God is using your prayers and financial support to make these legal battles possible, John.

Together, we can protect religious freedom in America and ensure than anyone who takes a stand for faith and freedom—like Blaine has done—never has to stand alone.

Please rise to the challenge and give the very best gift you can today.

Your gift protects religious freedom for us all—and provides a strong legal defense for Blaine and others like him.

Thank you for giving generously.
