Tonight’s the night! It’s the last evening of the Democratic National Convention and we’re expecting to see gun violence prevention front and center. Survivors and advocates who’ve lived through the unimaginable are taking the stage, and they’re here to remind us why this fight is so critical.
We’ll be hearing from Rep. Lucy McBath, who turned her pain into power after losing her son Jordan. Gabby Giffords, who’s been an unrelenting advocate since surviving her own shooting. And the Tennessee Three, who made waves in the legislature standing up against gun violence after a school shooting. We are so happy to see the voices driving change taking up a national stage to confront this ongoing gun violence epidemic.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, 10,759 people have died this year from shootings. In 2023, a total of 18,854 people were killed in shootings, and 20,390 in 2022.
Gun violence continues to tear through our communities, but we can do something about it. We’re fighting for policies that make sense - universal background checks, red flag laws, permit to purchase - all measures that will literally save lives if we keep the pressure on.
