A year ago, Ecuadorians overwhelmingly voted to keep over 700 million barrels of crude oil permanently in the ground underneath YasunĂ National Park, and yet the government and Petroecuador have done almost nothing to implement the referendum.

The country’s Constitutional Court gave them until August 20, 2024 to end oil activities, close all wells and roads, dismantle existing infrastructure, and remediate and restore the area. Their refusal to do so puts the region’s Indigenous peoples and the country’s democracy at great peril.

Take action now to protect Yasuní National Park! Join us in demanding that President Noboa respect Ecuador’s popular vote and immediately end oil drilling in this biodiverse region.

Ecuador's vote wasn't close. An overwhelming 60% chose to protect YasunĂ after fighting for a decade to get the referendum on the ballot. It was a major victory for Indigenous peoples, biodiversity, and the climate in a country that is the largest producer of Amazon crude and has seen decades of contamination and rights abuses at the hands of the oil industry.

Send a message to President Noboa of Ecuador urging him to respect the will of the people and protect YasunĂ and the rights of Indigenous peoples!
