Hi John.
Did you hear the great news last week?
Medicare finished negotiating lower prices for ten crucial and lifesaving prescription drugs. These new lower prices will help Kansans save thousands of dollars of every year. Thanks to the negotiations, prices for ten prescription drugs are being reduced anywhere from 38 percent to 79 percent!
This announcement is a huge win. That’s especially true for the 74,000 Kansas seniors who will see their prescription drug prices go down thanks to this much needed change.

No one should be forced to choose between paying for their groceries or lifesaving prescription drugs. That’s why I stood up to Big Pharma and voted to pass the law that’s finally allowing Medicare to negotiate for lower prices.
Here are just a few examples of what this change means –
• Prices for Enbrel, a prescription that treats rheumatoid arthritis, will be reduced by 67 percent. That’s a savings of $4,751 for the list price of a thirty-day supply.
• Costs for Imbruvica, a medicine for people with blood cancers, will be reduced by 38 percent. That’s a savings of $5,615 for the list price of a thirty-day supply.
• The cost of Stelara, a treatment for psoriasis and Crohn’s disease, will go down by two thirds. That’s a savings of $9,141 for the list price of a thirty-day supply.
This comes on top of other reforms due to the new law. That includes capping the cost of insulin at $35 a month for seniors. I’ve been gratified to see how the insulin cap is already helping local seniors like Julie, who lives in Overland Park. She was faced with having to pay thousands of dollars a year for her insulin, which she couldn’t afford. Now, she can.
The new cap on insulin prices for seniors on Medicare is making a real difference for Julie and many other Kansans. You can click here to learn more about Julie and her story on Fox4 KC.
I understand there’s a lot more work to do. I believe we need to keep lowering prescription drug prices and ensure everyone, not just those on Medicare, can access these lower prices.
I also know many others are struggling with other costs including for groceries, gas, housing, and much more. I’ve made lowering costs for Kansans a top priority – which is a critical part of building a better economy that works for everyone.
As I continue to push for concrete and bipartisan solutions to lower costs, please know that my team and I are always here to help however we can.
