Dear friend in Christ,

I was a senior at a Pentecostal university. It was Ash Wednesday at a little Episcopal Church, St. Luke's in Cleveland, Tennessee. In that open-minded, open-hearted season of college life, this young adult knew, in the words of Bob Dylan, "something is happening here."

Through the Episcopal Church and its stewardship of Anglicanism I would encounter liturgy, Holy Orders, and the sacraments, as well as great literature, an appreciation of beauty, engagement with culture, and an intellectual tradition that challenged as well as strengthened and stabilized my faith. I didn't meet Jesus for the first time at St. Luke's. But I did begin to discover my own root system, my belonging, in the ancient Church he loves.
