John, It’s unacceptable to me when people malign the meaning of patriotism and twist it to fit their needs. We know that MAGA extremists will do anything to try to win – including undermining our nation’s democracy as they did on January 6th.

As a combat veteran who fought to protect our democracy – I know in my soul what real patriotism is. Patriotism is about unity. Patriotism is about service. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are real patriots.

Because making America great doesn’t mean telling people: “You’re not wanted” – making America great means saying: “The ambitions of this country would be incomplete without your help.” And I know Kamala and Tim will work to uplift all of our families and neighbors – because they are patriots who serve, even when the mission is hard and the destination is uncertain.

But let’s be clear: This will be an uphill battle, and Kamala, Tim, and their allies in the states, Democratic governors like myself, can’t do it alone. From Social Security and reproductive rights to control of Congress and 11 governorships including in key swing states like North Carolina and New Hampshire, everything we care about is at stake.
