Dear John, |
In this unique and unprecedented time, we are faced with many wrenching paradoxes. The staggering human cost of the current crisis is contrasted by inspiring stories of healthcare workers and others who embody the very best of the human spirit. Profound fear and uncertainty go alongside hope and confidence that we will make it through this crisis together. |
Jews are no strangers to the juxtaposition of grief and joy, mourning and celebration. And that is perhaps most apparent today, as we join Israel in remembering its fallen soldiers and victims of terror on Yom HaZikaron (Memorial Day) and then, this evening, celebrating the country’s 72 years of existence on Yom HaAtzma’ut (Independence Day). |
Here are four ways you can join AJC in honoring the sacrifice of Israel’s fallen heroes and celebrating the country and all that it has given the world: |
1. Hear the stories of loss.
Watch the personal accounts of three AJC Jerusalem staffers who have experienced the loss of loved ones in the line of duty and hear what Yom HaZikaron means to them. |
2. See Israel through new eyes.
Click on the video below to hear from alumni of AJC Project Interchange, which brings American and global decision-makers to Israel to experience the country for themselves, about their connections to Israel and what they most appreciate about that remarkable country. |
 |
3. Take a deeper dive into the Israeli experience.
Check out AJC’s list of the top ten books you should read to better understand Israel’s struggle for its existence and security and the country’s striking contributions to all of humanity. |
4. Join a celebration of Israel’s 72nd birthday.
AJC is proud to partner with the Jewish Federations of North America and a host of other organizations in an exciting online event featuring world leaders, Hollywood celebrities, noted musicians, and thousands of others coming together to celebrate Israel. The party starts at 2:00 PM ET tomorrow (Wednesday). You may watch it live on YouTube or Facebook. Join the event on Facebook by clicking here and selecting “going.” |
We hope you and your loved ones will join us in remembering Israel’s fallen, celebrating its independence, and committing to ensure that the Jewish state’s future is even brighter than its present. |
Warmly, |
Melanie Maron Pell
