John,
Facebook is going to get someone killed. Sign the petition to stop them from micro-targeting dangerous misinformation to vulnerable people during COVID-19.
TAKE ACTION
Despite Mark Zuckerberg’s claims that his company will do everything it can to help out during the COVID-19 crisis, multiple investigations have shown that Facebook is continuing to profit from paid advertisements for fraudulent and harmful Coronavirus “cures,” like UV lights and ingesting disinfectants.1
Even worse, Facebook is using its micro-targeting machine to shove this deadly false information down the throats of people who are most susceptible to it.2
Facebook’s invasive advertising practices were dangerous before. During a pandemic, they could be deadly.
Sign this urgent petition to stop Facebook’s micro-targeting machine. We’ll copy your message to the Federal Trade Commission and Congress demanding they investigate.
Facebook harvests our data for a reason. They use it to create a complete profile of who we are and what we think, so that they can bombard us with specific advertisements and posts, showing us exactly what they want us to see in order to manipulate us, keep us using their platform, and maximize their profits.
This “micro-targeting” scheme amounts to an unethical psychological experiment on billions of humans’ brains.
The Cambridge Analytica scandal showed us how this practice endangers our democracy.3 With advertisements encouraging susceptible people to ingest poisonous household cleaners or ignore advice from health experts, it’s only a matter of time before Facebook’s micro-targeting machine directly leads to loss of life.
Facebook is incapable of moderating ads and content responsibly, especially during a pandemic. Instead of calling for more censorship, which always comes with collateral damage, we need to tackle the problem at its root.
Sign the petition to tell Facebook to immediately stop allowing micro-targeted ads, and demand an investigation into their dangerous practices.
Please forward widely!
