Dear John,
Ā
Campaign update - Penguins hit the press!

As you may know, earlier this year we launched a campaign to free the gentoo penguins currently held captive in London Sea Life Aquarium. These penguins liveĀ in a basement aquarium, they have no daylight, no fresh air, and just a tiny pool of a few feet in depth.

Most recently we launched an open letter calling for their release, which has now been signed by 26 high profile people includingĀ Chris Packham, Peter Egan, and Carol Royle.

Our open letter first appeared in The Express last Friday and since thenĀ the campaign has gone from strength to strength. All this week it has hit multiple national press offices and featured in the BBC, The Jeremy Vine Show and Times Radio.

The letter is calling on Sea Life and Merlin Entertainments, who own Sea Life and various other 'attractions' around the country, to cease immediate breeding and exhibition of these animals and send them to a true sanctuary.

Like many zoos and aquariums, Sea LifeĀ likes to make out that they are helpingĀ speciesā€™ conservation - however, gentoo penguins arenā€™t even threatened in the wild and are classed as ā€˜Least Concernā€™ by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

What can you do to help these penguins?

šŸ§ Please sign the petition today. If you have already signed, please share across your social media. The number of signatures is growing but we still need more!

šŸŒŠ Boycott all Merlin Entertainments attractions until they stop exploiting animals!

ā„ļø Adopt a penguin to help us continue our work for a world without cages!

For the animals,

Laura Walton

P.S. The story of these penguins has hit national press multiple times this week. You can help keep up the pressure on Sea Life today by signing and sharing the petition. Thank you.
