Last year alone, 30 journalists were assaulted in the U.S., and eight were arrested. During presidential election years, this number surges dramatically, as seen in 2020 when assaults increased by over 1000%. The need for a free and independent press to inform communities and hold public officials accountable has never been more urgent.
