No Voter ID, No CR

Friends,

Here is the reality for what is coming up in the next month in Congress. Instead of returning to the negotiating table to pass the remaining spending bills, Congress is gearing up to push through another Continuing Resolution (CR). This tactic delays the inevitable, likely leading to a massive omnibus package in December or even pushing the issue into a new Congress next spring. This is the establishment’s playbook.

Here’s what’s also clear — the Democrat-controlled Senate and President Biden continue to block the SAVE Act, a straightforward measure passed out of the House that ensures only U.S. citizens can vote in our elections. They don’t want secure elections, and that should concern every American.

If the establishment insists on a CR, Republicans must demand the inclusion of the SAVE Act. This would force the Senate and President to either pass it or risk a government shutdown. The Freedom Caucus and I stand firm on this issue. While we oppose passing any CR, if it’s forced upon us, we will.

LyondellBasell's Plant Visit

Strong local industries are the backbone of our community’s economy. I recently had the opportunity to visit LyondellBasell’s Corpus Christi plant, a critical part of our district that provides well-paying jobs and produces essential materials like ethylene and propylene, used in everything from food packaging to medical supplies. We’re proud to have such a vital industry leader here in TX-27

Shiner Fire Station

Ensuring that our rural communities in Texas have the resources they need for safety is a top priority. I recently met with Shiner, TX Fire Chief Bill Petru to discuss securing grants for rural fire and emergency stations. Shiner’s 48 volunteer firefighters work tirelessly to manage wild grass fires and vehicle accidents. With their need for a new fire station and ladder truck, we are working on ways to help them secure federal support.

Supporting Good Public Transportation

Effective and reliable transportation is essential for well-being and long-term growth of Corpus Christi. That’s why our office worked diligently to secure a $5.8 million grant for the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (CCRTA) to replace their aging diesel buses with new compressed natural gas ones. These improvements will ensure that those who rely on the CCRTA for mobility — including many seniors and veterans — have reliable transportation for years to come. It was great to tour the CCRTA facility and see the progress being made.

Supporting our Seniors

Caring for our seniors is an important part of Texas values. During a visit to The Heights of Gonzales Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, I saw firsthand how they are working to provide top-notch, personalized care, from short-term recovery to long-term support. Facilities like The Heights play an essential role in improving the lives of our seniors and I am grateful for their willingness to show me around and share more about their mission and work!

God Bless,
