John,
No one should be forced to choose between their health and exercising their constitutional right to vote. But that’s exactly what happened in Wisconsin when Republicans forged ahead with an in-person election earlier this month. This week, we’re seeing the results:
The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare all of the failures of our systems. The electoral system in this country has long deliberately shut out Black, Brown, and working-class people, and this election will be no exception unless we act.
The Working Families Party is going all-in to make sure voters have the tools they need to cast their ballots safely by mail for WFP candidates in several upcoming primaries and this November’s election. Can we count on you to help hit our $25,000 grassroots fundraising goal before our end of month deadline with a donation today?

Today’s primary in Ohio — originally slated for March 17 but shifted to an entirely vote-by-mail election — is one of the first tests of our movement’s ability to meet this moment.
WFP organizers on the ground are working hard to turn out the vote for Morgan Harper, a progressive challenger running for Congress against an incumbent Democrat in Ohio’s Third District, and Charmaine McGuffey for Hamilton County Sheriff. We’ve been running digital ads and text banks, making sure voters have all the information they need to cast their votes by mail or in-person if they didn't receive a mail-in ballot or have disabilities that require assistance. And WFP affiliate Yes We Can Columbus is part of the coalition behind Rep Your Block, a campaign to elect local progressive activists to the Franklin County Democratic Party Central Committee.
Several other states have primaries approaching in June, and we’re ramping up our trainings for progressive candidates and campaign staff who need to learn how to adapt to the new vote-by-mail reality, led by WFP organizers with years of experience in vote-by-mail states. But the reality is that our country’s patchwork of voting laws has left us all ill-prepared for the general election in November.
With public health officials predicting that a possible second wave of COVID-19 infections could be even more deadly in the fall, Congress needs to act now to expand early in-person voting and no-excuse vote-by-mail to all states.
In the meantime, the Working Families Party will double down on our voter education efforts. But we need your help in the weeks and months ahead. Please make a grassroots contribution today and help us reach our $25,000 end-of-month goal.
It’s more important than ever to protect our democracy and to protect people’s lives. With your help, we can make sure that no one is denied the right to vote in the most consequential election in our lifetimes.
In solidarity,
Team WFP
