Dear John,

The coronavirus outbreak continues to have a huge effect on our lives. It is frustrating not being able to go about our usual routines, like visiting our families or going out with friends. However, there are early signs that we are beginning to get the better of the disease and our sacrifices are paying off.

I want to thank everyone who is doing their best to help the national effort. Whether you are a nurse on the front line, a farmer ensuring we have food on our tables, a shop worker stacking shelves, or even if you are just following the advice from the safety of your home, you can be proud of what you are doing to save lives.

As ever, do not hesitate to get in touch if I can be of any assistance.

Tests for key workers

The UK government has established a new network of Covid testing facilities for key workers. This programme runs alongside the existing programme of testing in the NHS for clinical purposes and testing of key workers in health and social care.

Testing will allow symptomatic key workers and their household members to know whether or not they have the virus. This will in turn keep essential services running.

For the first time in the history of our Parliament, a virtual question was asked in the House of Commons from Coldstream in the Scottish Borders. It was certainly easier from the comfort of my home but I’m looking forward to doing my job again from the green benches of the Commons.
