Today we shine the spotlight on our LULAC Relief Project being released this
Thursday. Let’s explore the importance of Latino inclusion in health research
through a Tweetchat. Join us for a Town Hall with Univision and take the

Here is what you should know.

LULAC Relief Project: Our Power in Mobilizing Together

OPENING: Thursday, April 30 5:30 PM EST

Latino communities across the U.S. and Puerto Rico are being hit hard by the
COVID-19 pandemic. Now is the time when we must work together to lend a helping
hand for all persons impacted by the coronavirus. We each have a part in
providing impactful solutions and direct assistance, from corporate partners to
community groups and organizations.

In turn, LULAC is eager to launch a new initiative this Thursday that will
advance the local efforts of our councils across the country as well as help
individuals seeking assistance. You have taken the steps to mobilize in your
respective communities. We see what you do and we want to help.

LULAC is encouraging councils to use the funds for local initiatives including
hunger relief, technology, mobility/transportation, mental health, mentoring and
educational assistance. Also, individuals who are seeking assistance can find
additional information on how to apply for a stipend. Starting Thursday, April
30th at 5:30 PM EST, you may refer to our LULAC@Home website [ [link removed] ]
for further info on the micro-stipends and individual assistance, its criteria,
and the application process.

We invite you to contribute to the amazing work of our members on the ground by

We Remember an “El Paso Warrior,” Memo

LULAC is deeply saddened by the passing of Guillermo "Memo" Garcia, who was the
last remaining patient and now the 23rd victim of the El Paso Shooting on August
3, 2019. That day, Garcia and his family were in the parking lot of the Cielo
Vista Walmart, fundraising for his daughter's soccer team. In a story from KVIA [ [link removed] ] ,
Garcia’s wife, Jessica Garcia, is quoted for her words of strength as she pays
homage to her late husband. Jessica Garcia had joined LULAC at the “March for a
United America” rally in El Paso to denounce racial hatred.

Join us to learn how the recent CARES Act stimulus package affects your
pocketbook and about resources for the undocumented immigrant community. Experts
will discuss how unemployment benefits work, what kind of cash rebates we can
expect, and how we can manage debt during this crisis. The event will be in

Take the challenge!

In partnership with Hornitos Tequila, LULAC has developed Ayuda en Español, a
one-stop online resource kit and social media effort designed to make crucial
information accessible to Spanish speakers in our communities during the current
health crisis. Our goal is to empower our LULAC Councils with this tool to be
able to access and share information for our families on the ground.

A range of templates makes it easy to navigate and seek assistance in an array of
essential topics: Unemployment benefits, Social Security, Price Spiking, Access
to Health Care, Housing, Healthcare for Uninsured Persons, Help for Incarcerated
Individuals, Domestic Violence, Safety and Well-Being, and Immigration Issues.

Ohio Primaries

It’s election day in Ohio! General registered voters had the option to mail in
their ballots yesterday. Now, disabled voters and people without a permanent
address are allowed to vote in person at their local election board where they

Sunday, April 26—Austin’s District 12 LULAC Council #22325 condemned the shooting
of a 42-year-old man and is calling for an independent investigation.

Friday, April 24—San Benito County LULAC Council #2890 published a piece in the
local news (BenitoLink) about the threat facing the farmworker community and
their efforts in establishing the Farmworker Task Force.
