Folks,

The Democratic National Convention is underway in Chicago, and this event always makes me proud to be a Democrat.

Seeing all of us come together and outline our progressive vision is truly a beautiful thing, and it gives me so much hope for the future.

Being around that kind of energy makes it easy to forget that policies like providing affordable health care, securing reproductive freedom and making communities safer could ever be controversial issues.

But the reality is that, outside the DNC, there are so many politicians across our country who are fighting to not just halt our progress – but even take our country backward.

What’s even more devastating is that these extremists have a very good chance of retaking control of the Senate and the White House in November.

Democrats have the narrowest possible path to victory in the Electoral College, and we can’t lose ANY seats to hold onto our Senate majority.

Given the stakes of this election, that means we’re at a massive turning point for our nation and our democracy, and the DNC is a defining moment when we must all remind ourselves of what we’re fundamentally fighting for.

So please, folks, ask yourself:

Are you with us to make progress for all Americans instead of a select few? Are you with us to secure and expand our fundamental rights? Are you with us to safeguard our democracy and what our country is supposed to be about?
