John,
The Democratic National Convention officially kicked off yesterday, and we wanted to take a moment to share our thoughts about the highlight of the night: AOC’s primetime speech.
She centered the struggles of working families, and shamed the cynical politicians who repeatedly turn their backs on those in need.
She called out Donald Trump’s hypocrisy and deceit as "a two-bit union buster who thinks of himself as more of a patriot than the woman who fights every single day to lift working people."
And she was one of the first speakers all night to talk about the desperate need for a ceasefire in Gaza.
But also, she spelled out that the authoritarian rot in this country goes far beyond a single man like Donald Trump. And that you cannot defeat authoritarianism without building progressive power all the way up and down the ballot at the same time.
If you’re on board with that vision to block authoritarianism and build working class power, please watch AOC’s speech from last night and make a donation to WFP’s General Election fund here.

In 2020, our clear moral mandate was to make Trump a one-term president. And we organized and mobilized tirelessly to make it happen.
In 2024, our goal is the same. But winning policies that make real, concrete improvements for working families isn’t possible if we simply elect a President and call it a day.
We must win a true governing majority in Congress. One that is not beholden to corporate Democrats like Joe Manchin or Kyrsten Sinema. And continue to build a bench of fearless, progressive champions at ALL levels of government.
We need to build coalitions and communities across race, gender, and generation. And if we continue to do that, then soon, it’ll be WFP leaders setting their pro-working families agendas in city halls, state houses, and Congress itself.
Defeating MAGA extremists and electing Kamala Harris is a political necessity right now, but it’s not the end of the road.
Make a donation right now to help us elect Kamala Harris in 77 days, and build a lasting political vehicle that can continue to organize and fight — neighborhood by neighborhood — for working families every day.
In solidarity,
Team WFP
